Director - Garrett Colgan-Snyder:
Originally
from Arden, Delaware, Garrett and raised in Newton,
Massachusetts. He grew up camping in Vermont
and New Hampshire with his parents and
brother. At camp as a boy Garrett came to love the overnight
experience and appreciate the community and relationships born from
that environment. His continued commitment to the outdoors has
brought him countless new experiences and friendships from which he
draws to communicate, teach, and connect with children. He has achieved a "Camp-centric" lifestyle. His new self-help book so titled is due out in the fall...not really.
Head Counselor & Camper Advocate - Jessica Solley:
A member of the Hawkeye community from the beginning Jess came to us
after a bucolic childhood in northern New Jersey. Wantage,
NJ...have you heard of it? Ever been there? We didn't
think so. After escaping the soft embrace of small town
America Jess found herself in Boston by way of rural Vermont.
A graduate of Suffolk University she is studying for her Master's in
Education. We are hoping that means that not only will we have
the benefit of her heart and mind throughout the rest of her own
career as a student but beyond into her years as a teacher.
Special Activities Coordinator (Session A)- Lesley Kettles:
An individual to be sure, Lesley is a full time Business Studies
teacher in Stirling, Scotland. Only a short drive (by American
standards) from her home town of Inverness, Lesley, while not
rustling Highland Cows, enjoys the distinction of being the most
dramatically inclined business studies educator in the region.
While not organizing plays and shows Lesley burns the midnight oil
concocting the most challenging and outrageous special activities
ever devised! Okay, maybe that is a bit overdramatic...
Special Activities Coordinator (Session B)- Jennifer "Jeffa" Breeden:
A teacher in Tewkesbury England Jeffa has made her mark in the
classroom and at camp. During her first summer as a counselor
for a camp in Connecticut Jeffa came to love to camp experience and
during her first year at Hawkeye (2008) her CiT "tinkers" came to
love her. We are continuing to develop our full appreciation
of her abilities in her role as Special Activities Coordinator for
Session B in 2009.
Nurse - DeAnn Kelsey:
As a school nurse at a charter school in Boston DeAnn has seen it
all. From tummy aches to athlete's foot she's got a cure.
DeAnn is in her third year at camp and cannot wait for the wake up
bell on the first morning...and neither can her kids. A
fixture at camp over the last few summers her family has come to see
the camp community as "a second family" (quoting her daughter).
Office Manager:
Andrea Solley:
A small business owner from "way North" New Jersey, Andrea has the
woods and camp in her blood. From tent camping in the
Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York to urging her kids to take
advantage of the woods and other natural resources around their
house on the weekends she has been a strong advocate of a natural
ethic.
Say hi to her on the phone when you call and see what her "advice of
the day" is...if you dare.
