The focus of this area includes the proper care, upkeep and natural functioning of a forest or wooded area. Campers learn to care for the trees around them. They learn to identify sick, dead or dying trees and the proper techniques for trimming or harvesting trees for firewood and safety purposes as well as for the general health of the forest. Each summer campers will be involved in at least one substantial in-camp project that uses the skills of Woodsmanship in coordination with those from a number of other program areas. Projects range from clearing and building a satellite camp-site, including fire pit, to building a lean-to, or even constructing a new cabin.
