Erin Stermer
Hometown: Edina, Minnesota
Role at camp: General Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Mohican
Cabin: Meadoview (Girls 13-15)
Summers at Hawkeye: 1
Description/Quote: Despite it being her first summer with us at Hawkeye Erin was undaunted by the challenge and quickly became a community favorite. Her talents stretch far and wide and included all sorts of camp songs. There is a rumor that the “Bunk One Song” actually comes from her previous work and that she might be the secret writer of Justin Beiber’s famous “Baby” song.

Garrett Colgan-Snyder
Hometown: Newton, Massachusetts
Role at camp: Director
Tribe Affiliation: None
Summers at Hawkeye: All of Them!
Quote: There is no better job in the world and no other place I'd rather be. Camp has done more for me than school, sports, or other extra curricular activities. There is so much to love.

Jason Roberts
Hometown: Northhampton, England
Role at camp: Junior counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Seneca
Cabin: Le Mejor Cabina: Boys 12-13
Summers at Hawkeye: 5
Quote: A self-styled new-age rugby playing intellectual Mr Roberts has provided tremendous passion for the community since his arrival in 2007. Having grown up as a camper and CiT at Hawkeye Jason tapped a new skill set in 2011 as part of the Maintenance Staff. His hole-digging prowess was matched only by Chris’ and proved endearing and amusing if not at least marginally helpful.

Ruth "the Truth" Africa
Hometown: Johannesburg, South Africa
Role at camp: Program Coordinator
Tribe Affiliation: Mohican
Summers at Hawkeye: 1
Quote: Ruth took time off from graduate school in China to spend the summer with us for her first time at an American summer camp. Everyone hopes it won’t be her last and the word is some of the Mohicans are organizing a letter writing campaign to make it happen. An English teacher in her spare time in China Ruth brought a sports and teamwork background with her to Hawkeye in 2011.

Melody "DD" Owens
Hometown: Lancaster, Pennsylvania
Role at camp: Archery Counselor
Cabin: Cailin Deas Kijiji (Girls 13-15)
Tribe Affiliation: Seneca
Summers at Hawkeye: 1
Quote: Though it was her first summer at Hawkeye Melody - aka DD, aka Mel, aka who knows how many other nicknames - is not a stranger to camping. Mel has worked in camps in four states and in a handful of programs doing it full time for a number of years now. She is currently at a camp in Michigan counting down the days until the snow thaws and Hawkeye reopens for the 2012 season.

Roger "Bear Gryllis" Finnell
Hometown: Waltham, Massachusetts
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Seneca
Cabin: Booger Hollow (Boys 8-11)
Summers at Hawkeye: 1
Quote: Roger’s favorite thing about camp was teaching all of the Booger Hollow boys about the outdoors and relaying his woodsman skills to them. Whether it was showing them how to build a lean-to or the perfect fire Roger was most comfortable getting his hands dirty in the woods. When not at camp Roger is a swim instructor and jewelry maker.

DeAnn Kelsey
Hometown: Roxbury, Massachusetts
Role at camp: Nurse
Tribe Affiliation: Iroquois
Summers at Hawkeye: 5
Quote: A school nurse in the off-season DeAnn brings her two sons to camp with her each summer. She not only takes care of all of our health needs but teaches some nature and creative skills.

Kaytee "Mother Nature" Duskin
Hometown: Audubon, Pennsylvania
Cabin: Meadoview (Girls 8-12)
Role at camp: Bugs and Dirt Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Iroquois
Summers at Hawkeye: 1
Quote:Of all of the nicknames acquired in 2011 Kaytee’s might be the most flattering. An environmental educator in Mukwonago, WI, in the camp offseason at a Montessori School, Kaytee fast became a camper favorite with her engaging nature activities and obvious caring. Mother Nature also had great energy and passion for her cabin and tribe.

Garrett Colgan-Snyder

Hometown: Newton, Massachusetts
Role at camp: Director
Tribe Affiliation:None
Summers at Hawkeye:All of Them!
Quote: There is no better job in the world and no other place I'd rather be. Camp has done more for me than school, sports, or other extra curricular activities. There is so much to love.

Jessica Colgan-Snyder
Hometown: Waltham, Massachusetts
Role at camp: Assistant Director
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Summers at Hawkeye: All of Them!
Quote: Come find her down at the Waterfront and she'll swim you out to Turtle Rock. Find her at the Expeditions Shed and she'll take you up Mt. Whiteface. But, if you come and try to find her eating our homemade bread she'll just take you out!

Robert "Wapper" Wapnick
Hometown: Massapequa, New York
Role at camp: General Counselor - Junior Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Cabin: Booger Hollow (Boys 8-11)
Summers at Hawkeye: 4
Quote: The 2nd least likely Huron in the history of the camp Mr. Wapnick, Wapper to the community, was like a rock of stability in Booger Hollow this summer. Though a new counselor he used his Jedi-like skills acquired as a CiT to tackle the challenges of counsellorship head on. The youngest boys had their favorite group activity provided for them by Wapper as he read to them each day in the cabin.

Liam "Lily" Grisley
Hometown: Northampton, England
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Mohican
Cabin: Brookside Lounge (Boys 14-15)
Summers at Hawkeye: 6
Quote: Don't be thrown off by his tough as nails nickname, Lily Grisley; Liam is a warm and easy to like guy. He's got skills to use in many places around camp but the oldest boys are lucky to have him.

Alex "Jafro" Lumsden
Hometown: Northhampton, England
Role at camp: Junior Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Cabin: Brookside Lounge (Boys 14-15)
Summers at Hawkeye: 3
Quote: If you consider yourself to have dry sense of humor think of Alex as having the “Sahara” of humors. A home grown counseling talent Jafro was both a camper and CiT. Still in school Jafro was the kitchen assistant and helped out in Bugs and Dirt for the second half of the summer. When asked about his plans for 2012 Jafro averred that both he and his hair expect to be at camp again.

Ellie Coombs
Hometown: Northampton, England
Role at camp: Junior Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Iroquois
Cabin: Cailin Deas Kijiji (Girls 13-15)
Summers at Hawkeye: 5
Quote: Having had the privilege of being both a camper and CiT in the Hawkeye community not much gets by Ellie. At camp she gets a break from her studies and jumps feet first into whatever activity, hike, or special event we’re doing. As a Junior Counselor this summer she assisted in a variety of places taking pictures for the yearbook, helping in the cabin, and in the camp office.

Mike "The Man Who Can" Fedyk
Hometown: St. Helens, England
Role at camp: General Counselor-Maintenance
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Summers at Hawkeye: 5
Quote: He found camp almost by accident back in early 2007 but it's no accident that he keeps coming back. A home away from home camp has become for our man Feds.

Neil "Nee Nee" Preston
Hometown: Northampton, England
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Cabin: La Mejor Cabina (Boys 12-13)
Summers at Hawkeye: 6
Quote: This staff all-star cannot be summed up in a few sentences. The inventor of Presto-Ball and one of the early practitioners of Bunk Ball Mr Preston has been making an impression on our community as a camper, CiT, JC, in the Kitchen, and now in the cabins. He’s only got three words of advice, other than the 10 Rules that he keeps for his Cabin Group; “Live Your Life!”

Eduardo “Edu” Caturla

Role at camp: Cabin Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Seneca
Cabin: Brookside Lounge/La Mejor Cabina: Boys (12-13)
Summers at Hawkeye: 1
Quote:Taking time off from his career in sports management Edu split his time between Bunk 3 and 4. This Spaniard is flexible and willing to help whenever needed including taking over most of the long drives in the van for camp transportation. Those campers that were lucky to get to know Edu in the van before arriving at camp met an honest, loyal, caring, funny, and energetic counselor.

Nick Beatrice
Hometown: Newton, Massachusetts
Role at camp: Special Activities
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Summers at Hawkeye: 6
Quote: "Huron for life!" Mr. Nick embodies this mantra. He loves camp and cannot stay away. Look for him throughout the summer at random and unexpected times.

Kyle "Bieber" Young
Hometown: Newton, Massachusetts
Role at camp: General Counselor - Junior Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Mohican
Cabin: La Mejor Cabina: Boys (12-13)/Booger Hollow: Boys (8-11)
Summers at Hawkeye: 3
Quote: A high school senior at Newton North HS Kyle has been a camper and CiT while really stepping up in 2011 as a JC with two different groups. Kyle loves sports and focuses on wrestling and lacrosse back at home but prescribes to the old adage that at camp you can be anything you want; see his lip-syncing for proof.

Elise “Energy” Benusa
Hometown: Harrisonburg, Virginia
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Iroquois
Cabin: Cailin Deas Kijiji (Girls 13-15)
Summers at Hawkeye: 1
Quote: Wow, what a find this James Madison University sophomore has been. This, her first summer at Hawkeye specifically and overnight camp generally proved un-daunting for Elise. With characteristic energy, passion, and a straight forward nature she led the oldest girls’ cabin group in 2011. The group quickly found an identity and the word Kijiji was soon on everyone’s lips.

Tae "The Quiet Man" Clark
Hometown: Clinton, Maryland
Role at camp: CIT Coordinator
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Cabin: Brookside Lounge (Boys 14-15)
Summers at Hawkeye: 3
Quote: As our CiT Coordinator Tae has found his niche. His CiT group from 2011 ranks with the all-time best. Tae expects great things out of the CiT's; inventions, symphonies, Nobel prizes, and trips to the moon. If you want to join the CiT group he will expect and nurture these possibilities in you too. He is also the nickname guy so if you come to camp without one get ready to get one.

Teresa Solley
Hometown: Newton, Massachusetts
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Cabin: Meadoview (Girls 8-12)
Summers at Hawkeye: 5
Quote: Four years as a camper, CiT, and now a counselor, Teresa "Huron to the Core" Solley is no stranger to the Hawkeye community. She brings a real understanding of what camp means to her cabin and the Meadowview girls have a great approach to every new day as a result.

Tim "New Chefy" Solley
Hometown: Wantage, New Jersey
Role at camp: Chef
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Summers at Hawkeye: 2
Quote: When he's not cheffing he's never happier than looking for turtles in the lake or teaching a camper how to fish. This is a guy of many talents, take a look at Bunk 4’s new porch as a beautiful example.

Chris Preston
Hometown: Clinton, Maryland
Role at camp: General Counselor - Maintenance
Tribe Affiliation: Iroquois
Cabin: Brookside Lounge (Boys14-15)

Talya Washington
Hometown: Manchester, New Hampshire
Role at camp: Arts and Crafts Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Seneca
Cabin: Cailin Deas Kijiji (Girls 13-15)
Summers at Hawkeye: 3
Quote: As a New Jersey transplant Talya seems to have found a home in New Hampshire. When she is not travelling around the world (Thailand and East Asia before camp) she has spent the last couple of years working for City Year. In her third year at Hawkeye Talya reclaimed her role as Arts & Crafts counselor turning the Arts & Crafts cabin back into a Seneca haven of green and brown.

Hometown: Prague, Czech Republic
Role at camp: Program Coordinator

Quote: As one of our two Program Coordinators in 2011 Maki played an important role as a member of the Hawkeye Leadership Team. With a background of hard work Maki finished her university studies just days before her plane departed for the US. With years of experience in camping in the Czech Republic and lots of outdoor skills Maki provided a unique perspective for both the community and Administrative Group.

Oliver “Ollie” Allen
Hometown: Northampton, England
Role at camp: Junior Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Mohican
Cabin: Booger Hollow (Boys 8-11)
Summers at Hawkeye: 2
Quote: In his summer before matriculating to university, Ollie took time out to return to camp for one last go. A tremendous swimmer and athlete Ollie was in the kitchen, on the maintenance team, and assisted with Bunk 2. A CiT in 2010 Ollie quickly took to the community and his CiT group soon deciding soon he wanted to come back and give to others the experience that he enjoyed.
