Erin Stermer
Hometown: Edina, Minnesota
Role at camp:General Counselor/Athletics/Lifeguard
Tribe Affiliation: Mohican
Cabin: Meadoview (Girls 13-15)
Summers at Hawkeye: 2
Description/Quote: Despite it being her first summer with us at Hawkeye Erin was undaunted by the challenge and quickly became a community favorite. Her talents stretch far and wide and included all sorts of camp songs. There is a rumor that the “Bunk One Song” actually comes from her previous work and that she might be the secret writer of Justin Beiber’s famous “Baby” song.

Garrett Colgan-Snyder
Hometown: Newton, Massachusetts
Role at camp: Director
Tribe Affiliation: None
Summers at Hawkeye: All of Them!
Quote: There is no better job in the world and no other place I'd rather be. Camp has done more for me than school, sports, or other extra curricular activities. There is so much to love.

Jason Roberts
Hometown: Northhampton, England
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor/Athletics
Tribe Affiliation: Seneca
Cabin: La Mejor Cabina: Boys 14-15
Summers at Hawkeye: 6
Quote: A self-styled new-age rugby playing intellectual Mr Roberts has provided tremendous passion for the community since his arrival in 2007. Having grown up as a camper and CiT at Hawkeye Jason tapped a new skill set in 2011 as part of the Maintenance Staff. His hole-digging prowess was matched only by Chris’ and proved endearing and amusing if not at least marginally helpful.

Ashley “Mr. Iroquois” Ward
Hometown: Northampton, England
Role at camp: Junior Counselor/Kitchen
Tribe Affiliation: Iroquois
Summers at Hawkeye: 6
Quote: A six-year community member we’re pretty sure that only rocks, certain trees, and Garrett have
been at Hawkeye longer than Ashley. This can do guy was a Kitchen Assistant this summer learning the
ins and outs of bread making, pancake flipping, and inventory management. His pet peeves include a
messy countertop and bouncy eggs. Expect to see more of Ashley around in 2013.

Mark “The Terminator” Colgan
Hometown: Longwood, Florida
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor/Archery
Cabin: La Mejor Cabina: Boys 14-15
Tribe Affiliation: Mohican
Summers at Hawkeye: 1
Quote: Coming up from Florida Mark didn’t know what to expect. He was used to swamps filled with
snakes and alligators, 100 degree nights, and the constant threat of rain. What he got; a second home.
The Terminator was a fixture on Hawkeye News, hilarious for dress up days, and without shame for CEA.
Mark is 99.9% sure Hawkeye is in his plans for 2013…there was something about alien visitation and that
other .01%.

Tribe Affiliation: Iroquois
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor/Head Lifeguard
Cabin: Cailin Deas : Girls 13-15
Summers at Hawkeye: 1
Quote:As the Head Lifeguard this summer Rachel joined the community running. A veteran of

the Iroquois tribe. She was a woman of many talents this summer from driving to leading hikes, to
scheduling camper choice.

DeAnn Kelsey

Quote:To travel to a country you've never been to before, to settle in a place where you don't
know anybody, and to be made to feel so welcome and so at home is incredible. I've
never met so many great people in one place. The best Summer I've ever had!

Jessica Colgan-Snyder
Hometown: Waltham, Massachusetts
Role at camp: Assistant Director
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Summers at Hawkeye: All of Them!
Quote: Come find her down at the Waterfront and she'll swim you out to Turtle Rock. Find her at the Expeditions Shed and she'll take you up Mt. Whiteface. But, if you come and try to find her eating our homemade bread she'll just take you out!

Carlos Portillo-Rubio
Hometown: Madrid, Spain

Quote:Another home grown staff member Carlos was our sole representative on the staff team from
Spain in 2012. He acted as cabin counselor, interpreter, and soccer guru throughout Session A. Carlos
believes Hawkeye is good luck because he has seen Spain win two championships in the World and Euro
Cup while at camp the last couple years.

Liam "Lily" Grisley
Hometown: Northampton, England
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Mohican
Cabin: Booger Hollow : Boys 8-11
Summers at Hawkeye: 7
Quote: Don't be thrown off by his tough as nails nickname, Lily Grisley; Liam is a warm and easy to like guy. He's got skills to use in many places around camp but the oldest boys are lucky to have him.

Alex "Jafro" Lumsden
Hometown: Northhampton, England

Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Cabin: Brookside Lounge (Boys 12-13)
Summers at Hawkeye: 4
Quote: If you consider yourself to have dry sense of humor think of Alex as having the “Sahara” of humors. A home grown counseling talent Jafro was both a camper and CiT. Still in school Jafro was the kitchen assistant and helped out in Bugs and Dirt for the second half of the summer. When asked about his plans for 2012 Jafro averred that both he and his hair expect to be at camp again.

Quote: John first joined the community in 2007 as a camper. He has always had a huge personality and
continues to make an impact on the community. This summer as a Kitchen Assistant and then

Caileigh Byrne
Hometown: Newton, Massachusetts
Role at camp: Junior Counselor/Cabin Counselor
Tribe Affiliation: Mohican
Cabin: Meadowview: Girls 8-12
Summers at Hawkeye: 2
Quote: If we gave out an award for most energy Caileigh wouldn’t win the award…it would be named
after her. Next year we’ll give out the first Byrne Prize in Camping! Unflagging energy, a positive
outlook without rival, and a willing to get involved with whatever was on schedule for the cabin or tribe
is the best description we can give for her.

Neil "Nee Nee" Preston
Hometown: Northampton, England
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor/Kitchen/Lifeguard
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Cabin: Brookside Lounge: (Boys 12-13)
Summers at Hawkeye: 7
Quote: This staff all-star cannot be summed up in a few sentences. The inventor of Presto-Ball and one of the early practitioners of Bunk Ball Mr Preston has been making an impression on our community as a camper, CiT, JC, in the Kitchen, and now in the cabins. He’s only got three words of advice, other than the 10 Rules that he keeps for his Cabin Group; “Live Your Life!”

Ekta Gupta
Hometown: Buckinghamshire, England
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor / Drama
Tribe Affiliation: Seneca
Cabin: Cailin Deas : Girls 13-15
Summers at Hawkeye: 1
Quote:One reason I love camp is it provides an environment for us to be creative – it’s like a musical.
You can break into a dance or song whenever you like! Camp enables us to find something out
about ourselves and each other. The amount of love and support you get at Hawkeye, you feel
at home"

Nick Beatrice

Summers at Hawkeye: 3
Quote: A high school senior at Newton North HS Kyle has been a camper and CiT while really stepping up in 2011 as a JC with two different groups. Kyle loves sports and focuses on wrestling and lacrosse back at home but prescribes to the old adage that at camp you can be anything you want; see his lip-syncing for proof.

Paige Kee
Hometown: Freeport, NY
Role at camp: Kitchen
Tribe Affiliation: Mohican
Cabin:Meadowview: Girls 8-12
Summers at Hawkeye: 2
Quote: A late addition to the staff team this summer Paige jumped into the fray as an assistant to the
chef in the kitchen during Session B. A senior at Long Beach High School in New York she has a culinary
career in mind. Paige is another homegrown counselor and has been with camp for three years.

Tae "The Quiet Man" Clark
Hometown: Clinton, Maryland
Role at camp: CIT Coordinator
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Summers at Hawkeye: 4
Quote: As our CiT Coordinator Tae has found his niche. His CiT group from 2011 ranks with the all-time best. Tae expects great things out of the CiT's; inventions, symphonies, Nobel prizes, and trips to the moon. If you want to join the CiT group he will expect and nurture these possibilities in you too. He is also the nickname guy so if you come to camp without one get ready to get one.

Teresa Solley
Hometown: Newton, Massachusetts
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor/Arts & Crafts/Lifeguard
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Cabin: Meadoview (Girls 8-12)
Summers at Hawkeye: 6

Sergey Mikhaylov

new campers and CiT’s as an assistant to the Chef in the kitchen. Our daily bread maker Sergey greeted
campers and staff alike with a smile at the counter and kept us all well fed and cared for. Originally from
Russia Sergey lives in Massachusetts and is finishing up school at Masconomet Regional High School.

Colum “Big Bird” Walsh

Cabin: Booger Hollow: Boys 8-11
Summers at Hawkeye: 2
Quote: There's no experience like camp, as a camper or as a counselor. It's just so welcoming!
At camp you can be who you are. Your job is to help the campers do the same, and there really isn't a
better job in the world.

Quote: “I’ve been a camper, a CIT, and now a staff member. This summer I worked with the youngest
boys in Booger Hollow. I'm a senior at Tri-County high school in Franklin, Massachusetts. I play
football, I wrestle, and I do track. I love sports but I love camp even more!"

Matt Smith
Hometown: Northampton, England
Role at camp: Cabin Counselor/Athletics/Lifeguard
Tribe Affiliation: Huron
Cabin: Brookside Lounge: Boys 12-13
Summers at Hawkeye: 4
Quote: A university student in England Matt returned to Hawkeye this summer after a couple of years
away. He was lucky enough (his own words) to be one of the first group of campers at Hawkeye in 2006
but hadn’t been back since 2008. We missed him and he missed us. Though he is taller and his voice is
noticeably lower Smithy fit right back into the Hawkeye community without a hitch.
