Welcome CiT's
Hawkeye has three types
of members of its unique community; campers, staff, and counselors
in training, also known as CiT’s. The first two segments of our
population are easily recognizable and have starkly defined roles.
The third group, CiT’s, has a more transitional role, as either
apprentice staff member or camper depending on the situation.
Therefore, a CiT may be afforded responsibilities similar to those
of a counselor; equally, there will be times when a CiT is relieved
of such responsibility and enjoys time simply in the role of a
camper. It is the best of both worlds.
To qualify as a CiT
candidates must be at least 16 years of age when they arrive at camp. The
CiT group lives apart from campers divided by gender. There are
between four (4) and six (6) CiT’s at any time. The CiT
Program is a leadership development opportunity for participants and
a great resume builder. It is an opportunity for young people
looking for a chance take on some real responsibility to enjoy the
trust and support of our close knit camp community while taking
advantage of responsive supervision and guidance. The program
is an opportunity for Camp Hawkeye as well to train interested
individuals to be capable and reliable counselors in our program.
CiT’s spend parts of each day participating in the program as well
as learning the skills of counseling from more experienced
individuals.
CiT’s who
successfully complete the CiT program are given right of first
refusal for all staff positions that come open for
the following summer as a Junior Counselor. This means any staff roles for which Hawkeye is hiring
are first offered to
last year's CiT's.
The counselors in training
are overseen by a member of the administrative staff who acts as
mentor, supervisor and, at times, cabin counselor. This staff
member tracks and evaluates each CiT’s progress over the course of
the summer. S/he ensures that each CiT is comfortable in their
role, learning their desired skills, and being properly utilized in
their chosen program areas. A CiT may switch their specialty area
if both the CiT and mentor believe this to be beneficial to the camp
community.
Don't get left out...be a CiT and get real
experience. |
