SENECA

 

     The tribe occupied areas of New York State and now many live as far North as Canada. They referred to themselves as the ‘people of the mountain’. Women played very important roles; clan mothers were responsible for decision making. They were Hunters and Fishers, artwork and crafts included Face masks. Their music was slow and rhythmic. Instruments included flutes and drums filled with water to soften the sound.
