Special Activities
In addition to the regular camp schedule, which holds true three to four
days each week, all campers participate in a variety of special
activities. These activities range from Crazy Dress to
International Days, from the Robin's Arrow Tournament (an all-camp
archery tournament) to Nation's Games. Campers almost always
participate in Tribal groups with points accruing to the summer long
Tribal Contest. However it is not all competition based as Special
Activities are often multi-cultural and are almost always based on
inter-age
group participation. Hurons and Iroquois alike might learn how to count in
Russian, cook a variety of Chinese dishes, or play Cricket.
Hawkeye is a traditional style camp. This means that campers
live in cabins, eat communally and participate in a variety of
activities that are "traditionally" associated with "camping."
With this in mind we know that most camps are located on a lake, teach
swimming and boating, many have archery programs, and nearly all have
drama, athletics and arts & crafts. It is however the other parts
of camp; the traditions, the community atmosphere, the staff, and
especially the Special Activities that often set programs apart and
ensure that each individual has an unforgettable experience. We
understand this and work very hard to create, adjust, and carry out
special programming that is different, exciting and unbeatable.
Each and every week there is at least one
International Day. These may include Irish, Scottish,
Russian, Canada, English, Spanish, or any other country that is
represented at camp. Two other days each week host a major Special
Activity
