MEET THE DIRECTORS

MEET GARRETT & JESS COLGAN-SNYDER

WE'VE MADE CAMP OUR LIVES

Thanks for taking time to find about Camp Hawkeye and getting to know us a little.   We love working with kids, are energetic and passionate youth development professionals, and want to make you part of our family.  Not only is camp a fun place for kids to learn and grow but we have made it our lives. Our two sons August and Huxley are growing up as active members of the camp community. We know the power of the camp experience for kids and hope that you do too. Let's share in the growth process together.

ABOUT GARRETT

Originally from Arden, Delaware, Garrett was raised in Newton, Massachusetts. He grew up camping in Vermont and New Hampshire with his parents and brother. At camp as a boy, Garrett came to love the overnight experience and appreciate the community and relationships born from that environment. His continued commitment to the outdoors has brought him countless new experiences and friendships from which he draws to communicate, teach, and connect with children.

Garrett is the founder of Camp Hawkeye and is extremely active in the greater camping and youth development community.  He is a member of the NHCamps Board of Directors and a faculty member for the New Camp Director's Workshop at the American Camp Association, New England.

ABOUT JESS

Jess grew up in Wantage, NJ, an hour north of NYC. Her love for the outdoors was always there but her experiences in organized camping started later at Hawkeye.   Jess joined the Hawkeye staff in advance of summer 2006 and hasn't left.  A graduate of Suffolk University, she has committed her life to camping and the Hawkeye community.

Jess took over as assistant director in 2010.  She is an Accreditation Standards Visitor for the American Camp Association, traveling around New England to visit other camps and support their accreditation efforts. Jess' other passion is November Project, a free fitness movement started in November of 2012 in Boston.

WINTER WANDERLUST

Operating Camp Hawkeye is a year-round full-time labor of love for both of us. Once we close up the property in late fall, we split our time between NH and Delaware. During the winter months, we travel, find new adventures, and visit camp families and staff around the U.S.  We'd love to see you at camp this summer and visit you next fall!
