SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

HAVE FUN AND EARN VILLAGE POINTS

THE CHALLENGE IS AFOOT!

Special Activities are all-camp, all-day challenge days that use a range of group-oriented challenges that call on a variety of intelligences to teach fundamental problem-solving and cooperative skills. They're fun and active and full of opportunities to earn Village points and bond with friends.

CREATIVE DAY

An opportunity to use many types of creative skills.  This summer you may be painting, drawing, singing, and dancing.  Or maybe it’s puppet making, acting, rapping, and secret-handshaking.  Or maybe you’re decorating an egg to be used in Eggy Games, storytelling, fashion design, and writing a chant.   Whatever it is, you’ll do it as a team!

ROBINS ARROW

This camp wide Archery Tournament gives a chance for those who love firing arrows a chance to make compete.  Not as adept as Merida or Marvel’s Hawkeye? No problem.  Creative, physical and mental challenges make up so much of this day that there’s always something fun to do and a way to contribute.

EGGY GAMES

Ever played volleyball with an egg?  Garrett hadn't either until he went to camp.  Don’t worry -  it’s more catching than spiking.  Eggy Nose Push?  How about an Eggy Relay Race?  Eggy Obstacle Course?  Eggy Jump Rope?  Yes we do and yes you can!

SCAVENGER HUNT

Silly camp fun taken to the next level.  Find items for the hunt and hide them - you'll do both.  Cryptic clues for the morning as you hide items around camp and then an afternoon of hints about what & where things are hidden.  Work together, feel free to run around camp finding things but we will say that using your head is most important.

NATIONS GAMES

Hawkeye's version of the Olympics! An opportunity for sporty types to take the lead! Individual and team sport competitions including soccer, basketball, knockout, swamped canoe, and the Watermelon Relay. But don't forget -  sports at Hawkeye also means Rubix Cube race, puzzles, chess, and biggest splash.

AMAZING RACE

Long before it was on TV, the Amazing Race was happening at camps around the US.  At Hawkeye, the day ends with a 46 segment relay covering whistling to face paint to kayaking and everything in between.  Work together and complete something that will make you so proud.

THE HUMO SEIR CUP

The goals for the day include healthy competition, practicing positive sportsmanship, teamwork, and having lots of crazy athletic fun.  The focus for Humo Seir is on non-traditional team challenges.  Lots of water balloons to be sure!  Also get ready for The Human Clock, Camper Pyramid Hawkeye style, and poolside challenges.

MEDIEVAL MORROW

A medieval-themed special activity.  Make and eat a medieval feast, build a castle for protection, design Monty Python style quips to confound your competition, and lay siege to another castle to end the day.

TREASURE HUNT

Four treasure chest are buried around camp.  Yes, there are maps.  Yes, there are clues.  Yes, there are compasses.  Yes, there are codes to break.  There’s nothing like finding that last block with “X” marks the spot and starting to dig…except maybe carrying that locked treasure chest to the dining hall with the music going, your friends cheering, and ending with a big party for everyone.

EVENING ACTIVITIES

CAPPING OFF THE DAY IN STYLE

After dinner each night, we have Evening Program, when the community comes together for fun, wild-and-wacky, and sometimes poignant events. These include the Sorting (finding out which Village you'll be in!), Capture-the-Flag, Counselor Hunt, the Un-Talent Show, Kangaroo Court, Slideshow Social, and of course, Welcome & Goodbye Campfires.

OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS

Mixed in to the camp schedule are also other special events. These include the Camp Auction (will you win some hammocks to hang on your cabin porch?), the Bumppo Challenge, and International Days where we celebrate members of our community by learning about their homes and culture.
